A blood drive took place on Thursday in Fairport in honor of the Fairport Angels, the 5 young women who lost their lives in a car crash 11 years ago this month.

Hannah Congdon, Bailey Goodman, Meredith McClure, Sara Monnat and Katie Shirley died in a crash a week after graduation while on their way to a lakeside cottage.

The blood drive has been held for the past 7 years by the families of the victims.

It's something that Patrick Quigley, a donor who drove from Canandaigua, takes great pride in.

"It's not a heart transplant or you're not donating a kidney but it's something that is regenerated by your body very soon. And I just always feel so much better afterwards, like I did something, you know?" said Quigley.

The blood drive has collected more than 200 units of blood since its inception.

The Red Cross says there is a great need in the summer months for blood and platelet donations.
