ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Terry Williams, 51, was sentenced to 26 years to life in prison for the murder of his girlfriend last summer.

Williams was convicted of second degree murder and possession of stolen property in connection with the death of 49-year-old Cheryl Robinson, with whom he shared an apartment.

According to court paperwork, Williams shoved a towel in Robinson's mouth, tied her hands behind her back and bound her ankles.

Robinson's body was discovered on July 28th of 2017. It remains unclear when she died.

The Medical Examiner ruled she died of asphyxiation.

“Terry Williams intentionally and heinously took the life of someone he claimed to love,” said Assistant District Attorney Michael Bezer. “We hope this sentence will bring a sense of justice and closure to Cheryl Robinson’s suffering family."
