FAIRPORT, N.Y. — The Lollypop Farm Humane Society of Greater Rochester says dogs get illegally left in hot cars every year which is why Lollypop kicked off its Too Hot for Spot campaign earlier this month.

Humane society officials say when it’s just 80 degrees outside temperatures in a car can reach triple digits. That’s why their Too Hot for Spot campaign is urging pet owners to never leave their pets in the car, not even for five minutes. And they want everyone to take that pledge.

They say heat stroke, brain damage, organ failure and even death are the potential consequences of leaving your dog in the car

To help spread the word, they’re offering a free gift to anyone who goes to their website to take that pledge.

The campaign has only been on for two weeks, but already they have over 600 signatures.

“I think people do have good intentions, but I don’t think they have the information," said Ashley Zeh, Lollypop Farm. "And think if we can get more information out there, we can save lives.”

And they say if anyones sees a dog locked in a hot car, get the car’s information and call 911, but never break a window.

They also suggest checking with the store manager to see if the customer is inside, and can get their dog.
