ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- The last time Josh Allen was this far down on a depth chart was junior college. The Bills' top pick at quarterback is starting OTAs watching AJ McCarron and Nathan Peterman splitting first-team reps.

Allen says the toughest part of sitting back with the 3's is the lack of reps, and as there's no specific plan in place to increase them, the rookie sits back and takes advantage when he can,  feeling no pressure one way or the other.

"I'm looking to get better every day, whatever reps I'm getting with whoever I'm out there with. I'm here to learn from Nate and AJ and from Coach (Brian) Daboll and from experiences on the practice field. Balls that I can throw on the professional level and balls that I can't."

Thursday's performance was what you'd expect from Allen. One play, an effortless rope through the seam for a touchdown, then air-mailing throws to the outside. It's all part of his learning curve, which is a lot about speed.

"The game just moves a little bit faster. It's not that these guys run that much faster or they're so much bigger than the guys in college," Allen said. "It's just that they're smarter. They know where they need to be. They get their route recognition a lot faster, a lot quicker. They're jumping on balls now and we have guys that are fantastic players."

All three quarterbacks get their next round of reps next week for three more days of OTAs.
