After a failed budget vote for the Cortland Central School District earlier this week, some layoffs could be coming.
Voters rejected the proposed spending plan on Tuesday that included a 9.5% tax levy.
School officials got to that number to both help protect student services and only use attrition when it came to personnel decreases.
During a special Board of Education meeting on Friday, leaders said they were trying to meet about a $4 million deficit.
So, with moving forward with a 1.89% tax levy for a future $53 million budget vote, cutting more costs would require the reduction of 17 positions and other savings.
There will be a budget hearing at 6:30 p.m. on June 13 at Cortland Junior Senior High school, then the full budget vote the following week on June 20.
