A town judge in Cayuga County has resigned following an investigation by the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct.

According to the commission, Lucas Ferrin, now a former justice of Conquest Town Court, was charged with driving while intoxicated and several other related offenses, including obstructing governmental administration, in Oct. 2024. Ferrin was notified by the commission in April 2025 that it was investigating a complaint related to the charges.

That prompted Ferrin to resign from office as a condition of his plea to the DWI charge. The commission says Ferrin's resignation satisfied all the charges against him. In addition, Ferrin agreed to never seek or accept judicial office at any time in the future.

Commission Administrator Robert Tembeckjian released the following statement addressing Ferrin's resignation:

“Driving while intoxicated and related offenses endanger not just the inebriated driver but passengers, others on the road, pedestrians and police officers in pursuit. Judges, who are required by ethics rules to respect and comply with the law, must be especially mindful of setting the right example in this regard, since their conduct on or off the bench is so often scrutinized and publicized.”

Ferrin's current term as justice of Conquest Town Court would have expired on Dec. 31, 2027.
