ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — It’s a busy week for the Buffalo Bills, with the NFL Draft kicking off on Thursday and the start of the voluntary offseason workout program.
Some familiar faces are back in the fold, including fan-favorite Tre’Davious White, the former All-Pro cornerback returning to the club that drafted him after a year away. The Bills released White last offseason as he battled back from a torn Achilles spending the season with the Los Angeles Rams and Baltimore Ravens. The 30-year-old is glad to be back home, with the potential to compete for a starting job.
“This place is so special. So special to my family, too,” he said. “I told my agent, 'man, if you don't get Buffalo on the line, just don't call me.’ This is the only place that I really want to be. Do it the right way. Hopefully we get a Super Bowl here and I’ll be a part of it."
“I think he definitely can compete for a starting job,” said General Manager Brandon Beane. “I think that’s why he came back here. Tre is one competitive dude."
Speaking of competitive dudes, quarterback Josh Allen’s back to work after his MVP season, saying he’s never felt better physically during the offseason. Each year, Allen picks a place he wants to get better, and this is no different.
"I think pre-snap is what we're looking at right now. Just trying to help me identify what I'm seeing," Allen said. "Better with my footwork and certain routes and certain combinations. Making sure that within the offense I’m doing a good job of setting the protections the right way, knowing where my answers are if I’m not. That’s all stuff that we can control and I can control.”
One player not in attendance to start the offseason workout program was running back James Cook, who would like a big-money contract extension. Beane says he’s not sure when Cook will be in here, but it’s also not fair to think it’s definitely because he’s unhappy about his contract situation.
