Who will be the Bills No. 2 cornerback this season and into the future?
The club brought back veteran All-Pro Tre’Davious White and Dane Jackson this offseason, but the door remains open for general manager Brandon Beane to make it a priority position in the draft.
Mississippi’s Trey Amos might be a solid fit.
He brings good size at 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds. He’s a solid athlete, running the 40-yard dash in 4.43 seconds, tied for 10th among cornerbacks this year at the NFL Scouting Combine.
He started his career at Louisiana in the Sun Belt conference, then transferred to Alabama for one season before finishing up at Ole Miss, where he had a breakout year against the best of the best in the SEC.
“From Louisiana Lafayette, I did want to go higher up competition and just prove to them that I deserve to be there,” Amos said at the combine.
Amos was first team All-SEC last season as he tied for the team lead with three interceptions along team-best 13 pass breakups. He can play in man coverage or zone coverage, but The Athletic’s Dane Brugler wrote that his best fit is likely in zone defense. That versatility could work for the Bills, who have run mostly zone schemes under Sean McDermott, but did show a willingness to play more man coverage at times last season.
Brugler gave Amos a 2nd round grade, while NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein projected him in round 2 as well.
With the Bills picking late in the first round and twice in the second, Amos is a player to keep an eye on while Beane is on the clock.
