GEORGETOWN, Texas — U.S. Rep. John Carter, R-Texas, on Monday posted a photo to the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, showing the door to his Georgetown, Texas, office doused in red paint with the words “Free Gaza” written on the ground beneath it.

Carter said the act was committed by “unhinged anti-Israel activists.” The Republican lawmaker has voiced support for Israel in the past amid the Israel-Hamas war.

Carter says he plans to prosecute those responsible for the vandalism.

The war, now in its seventh month, has killed over 34,000 Palestinians and wounded another 76,000, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

The incident came just a few days after the House of Representatives passed a $95 billion aid package for Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan and the Indo-Pacific. The package includes about $9 billion in humanitarian assistance for Gaza. It will make its way to the Senate next where, if passed, President Joe Biden has said he will sign it into law.
