LEWISVILLE, Texas — You can’t make a list of the top wide receivers in the country without dropping Armani Winfield’s name. He’s a four-star recruit out of Lewisville who’s determined to finish his high school career in style.

“As of right now, my football journey is leading me to my senior year. Don’t be surprised if I have a big senior year. That’s all I can say. I’m telling y’all right now,” Winfield said.

What You Need To Know

  • Armani Winfield is committed to the University of Texas

  • He committed to the Longhorns after he saw Alabama win the 2021 College Football Playoff National Championship, where now UT head coach Steve Sarkisian was calling the offensive plays for the Crimson Tide

  • Lewisville High School has not won a state championship since 1996, something Winfield plans to change this upcoming season

Part of that senior year success will be helping his team win a state championship, which is something the Farmers haven’t accomplished since 1996.

“We play football in the 6A Division, which is the biggest football in America,” said Winfield. “We just have to break the barrier of reaching it past the second round because every time we get to that playoff spot, we lose. So we just need to take that next step as a culture and a program to take it further.”

The Lewisville culture is tight knit. Their bond and connection to one another is what makes this season and this run so meaningful.

“It would mean everything because the guys I’m playing with now are like my brothers. Literally my first year of football are the kids I’m playing with now. We all just wish for the best.”

As the 146th overall recruit in the country, Winfield had offers from just about everywhere — Penn State, Florida and Alabama just to name a few. However, he chose to remain close to home and be a Longhorn at the University of Texas. He committed the same night Alabama won the 2021 National Championship.

“I paid attention to what coach Sarkisian was doing on the field against Ohio State with DeVonta Smith,” said Winfield. “I just fell in love with it and was like I have to be a part of it. So during halftime I called UT and said I want to commit.”

During the recruiting process, Winfield was not the only one recruiters had to sell to get him to commit.

“I told all the coaches if you're gonna recruit me, you're gonna have to recruit my mom too,” Winfield said. “Because I’m her baby. So, I feel like she is never going to put me in harm's way. Whatever she says, goes.”

Winfield will make his senior season debut against Bowie High School on Aug. 27.
