GARLAND, Texas — To find one of the best defensive backs in the country, you’d have to pay a visit to Garland High School. That’s where you’ll find four-star safety Chace Biddle.

What You Need To Know

  • Chace Biddle is committed to Southern Methodist University

  • He is the third four-star athlete to commit to the Mustangs in the last two years

  • Biddle is ranked by 247Sports as the seventh-best safety in the country and the 20th-best overall recruit in the state of Texas in the Class of 2022

Biddle stands 6 feet, weighs 190 pounds and is ranked as the seventh-best safety in the country. Because of his impressive stature and pure talent, he’s been recruited by several power five schools (Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas and TCU to name a few). Biddle, however, chose the path less traveled by. He chose the path closest to home and the path best suited for his future: SMU.

“It was a hard decision between TCU and SMU. It’s two big programs and two unbelievable coaching staffs. I had to pray about it and keep my head down,” Biddle said.

Meanwhile, the Mustangs continue to make a major impact on the national recruiting scene by also landing Biddle’s Garland teammate and four-star wide receiver Jordan Hudson. In fact, Biddle is the third four-star athlete to commit to SMU in the last two years, joining Hudson and Class of 2021 quarterback Preston Stone from Parish Episcopal.

If Biddle signs with the Mustangs, he would become the top-ranked signee in school history over the last two decades. His mom, however, loves his SMU decision for other, non-football-related reasons.

“My mom thinks it’s great because of the academic and life after football standpoint,” Biddle said proudly. “She knows I can play football. But it’s like what are you going to do after football ends? Because it’s not going to be there all the time.”

For now, it is and he wouldn’t dream of playing any other position on the gridiron.

“I love playing defense. It’s better for me because I’m an aggressive dude,” he said. “Like whatever I’m going through in life, I take it out on the field.”

Biddle, who also runs track and will run track at SMU, has a goal to make it to the NFL.

“I’ve had NFL dreams since I was a young kid,” said Biddle. “But I never truly thought it was possible, not until I got my first offer from Kansas. I was thinking about it, but I didn’t know I was this close.”
