DALLAS — A routine COVID test this week returned a positive result for Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins. He credits regular testing for the early catch.

Jenkins has emphasized how vital standard COVID check-ups are to curb the virus spread and protect others. The judge, who is asymptomatic, will remain isolated and work from home until he’s able to return to public duties.

The Dallas-based judge has stood as an adamant proponent for COVID safety ever since the 2020 pandemic shutdown.

According to the Texas Department of Health Services' monitoring tool, over 6,700 new COVID cases were reported in the state for Wednesday, July 27. On Tuesday, Jenkins shared some information regarding COVID, recommending masks as a means of protection in the county.

“Local variant sequencing shows 75% of samples are the highly contagious BA.4/5 variants," reported Dallas County.

Dallas County is under a COVID risk of "extreme caution." The Public Health Committee has a report going over the county's threat level and the precautions to take.
