AUSTIN, Texas — Cameron Cook has been playing football for as long as he can remember, and after being a part of a championship flag football team at 5, he knew this was what he wanted to do. When Cook got to high school, he made the varsity team as a freshman and then things really took off when he became the starting running back at Stony Point the next season.

What You Need To Know

  • Cook is a senior running back at Stony Point High School

  • He has nine total TDs through four games this season

  • He's committed to TCU

  • He likes to fish in his free time

“Sophomore year came up, and they moved me to running back, I was the starting running back,” Cook said. “Obviously it’s a different speed, a different game, but after that I was all ready to go.”

Cook averaged over 100 yards per game that season as the Tigers’ running back. He came back as a junior and got off to a great start. However, a mid-season injury forced him to miss the end of the year.

“Being one of the captains of the team and not being able to help my guys out it was really tough,” Cook said.

Cook was also worried the injury would slow down his recruiting. Colleges had really started showing interest, and he had even picked up his first offer from Utah.

“I had just started getting my offers, and I didn’t know how that was going to affect that too,” Cook said.

Luckily for Cook, he had shown enough on the field that his recruiting didn’t really slow down. He had offers from some of the top programs all over the country, but eventually committed to TCU.

“I looked for what’s best for me. The relationship with the coaches, playing time and if they had the right things I was going to go to school for,” said Cook. “They made my parents feel like I was going to be treated well there and if you’re making my parents feel good, then you got me.”

With his college decision out of the way, Cook has focused on his senior year at Stony Point. Having played their first four games, the Tigers are 3-1 and Cook has over 500 yards rushing and seven touchdowns. He’s hoping to cap off his high school days with a great season.

“I’ve been fighting with these guys since we were in middle school,” said Cook. “Everyone’s goal is state and our goal is to keep playing together.”

While football consumes a lot of his life, he says there is time for a few things he enjoys away from the field.

“I go fishing and hang out with my friends,” says Cook. “Really, I like driving. I’ll just go drive when I have free time.”
