ALLEN PARK, Mich. — Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is credited with turning things around in Motown. His roots, though, are deep in the heart of Texas.

Campbell was given the Texas A&M Lettermen’s Association’s 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award. It was also given to Aggie legend Rick Rickman.

Campbell thought he was sitting down for an interview recently about his college playing days at Lions headquarters in Allen Park.

Suddenly, a video started playing in which Campbell was congratulated by his former coach, R.C. Slocum, and teammates.  

“I’m honored. Thank you. Thank you. I love my Aggies, man. Thank you for all my teammates, R.C. I love you to death, and it means the world to me. I’m honored,” an emotional Campbell said.

The event was captured in a video released by Texas A&M  Football.

Campbell played for the Aggies from 1995-98. He was drafted by the New York Giants in 1999. He also played for the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints and the Lions.

Since taking over as head coach in Detroit, Campbell led the team to their first division title since 1993 and their first playoff win since 1991.
