A farmer in Oswego County is picking up the pieces after an explosion destroyed one of his silos.

The owner said the food in the silo is ruined and there is some other damage.

It was a boom that instantly woke up Will Comley, his wife, and even neighbors miles down the road in Mexico.

"Got us right out of bed. I immediately looked out this way and could see sparks and things and quickly ran to the barn," said Comley.

He owns Comley's Country Creamery, and said his silo caught on fire and exploded Saturday night.

"It was a tremendous explosion, and we're not saying something like a gunshot went off or anything like that. It was a real big-time explosion," said Comely.

Comley said 30 feet of silo came crashing down, leaving his creamery, store, and house damaged. And the feed in the silo is not usable. It was supposed to last until summer crops.

"We have some chopped corn, dry hay, but we don't really have enough feed for the winter. Totally haven't figured that out yet," said Comely.

Despite the major downfalls, Comley said he's thankful everyone is safe.

"It could have been a lot worse. We're not out of business. The cows are OK. We're OK," said Comely.

And his neighbors volunteered to help.

"We've been here for about 11 years. We have some great people in this neighborhood. We have a lot of people calling and offering to help," said Comely.

He said there is not much to do except clean up, which he will take care of himself in the spring. Comley said he didn't have insurance on the silo, and it would cost more to replace, so he needs to figure out what he'll do for the winter.
