High school scholar feels space exploration can help solve problems on Earth

The Spectrum News High School Scholars Program recognizes exceptional high school seniors with scholarship awards of $1,000 for use toward college expenses.
Nominees must be high school seniors at public or private high schools in North Carolina. They must be involved in varsity athletics or have an excellent academic record, and be involved in extracurricular activities, such as band, newspaper, or yearbook, and be active in their local community, either through their school or volunteering on their own time.

Woods Charter School senior Max Selleck says he will attend UNC Wilmington in the fall.
Jade Smith is a senior at Charlotte Lab School.
This week's High School Scholar is involved in theater and athletics.
