GREENSBORO, N.C. – The U.S. Figure Skating Championships begin next week in Greensboro, and the Greensboro Coliseum and the community are gearing up for it.

  • The U.S. Figure Skating Championships will take place next week in Greensboro
  • Getting the ice in pristine condition is a major task
  • The event takes place from January 20-26

The event, which takes place from January 20-26, has drawn spectators from 43 states and Japan.

“In the second week or third week of January, if these people weren’t here, there's not going to be that much business in Greensboro, North Carolina in this time of the year. It's great things happening in Greensboro,” Koury Corporation Executive Vice President Mo Milani says.

Mike Clayton, the general manager of Ice Rink Events, says getting the ice in pristine condition has been a major task.

“We've hauled in 400 tons of refrigeration, and 29 miles of cooling tubes, and flush in 17,000 gallons of water, and here we are almost ready to skate,” Clayton says.

It is the third time that Greensboro has hosted the figure skating championships.
