CHARLOTTE, N.C. — In August, the FDA approved a COVID-19 booster shot for immunocompromised people. Now, it is working to approve it for everybody later this month.

At Walker’s Drug Store, which is owned by Carolina Pharmacy, they’re getting ready for what they anticipate will be an increase in demand.

Pharmacist Dr. Taylor Forston says they’ve already had a lot of calls from patients asking about the booster. She expects that once it is approved, the pharmacy will be even busier than when they started vaccinating in April.

“Just been getting a lot more calls, people questioning about if they qualify for the next dose, when they can come in and we have also adjusted our online platform to get people to get scheduled,” Fortson said.

This is on top of people getting vaccinated for the first time. Forston says she’s also seen in increase in people getting their first dose after the FDA approved the Pfizer vaccine.

Although she expects it to pick up, she says the store is ready.

“We are very busy with testing and we have a lot of technicians who are certified now to help with COVID vaccines, so it’s not just relying on the pharmacist giving vaccines, which has been a huge help as far as getting things done," Forston said.

She says people who are eligible for the booster shot now do not need a doctor’s prescription. They can easily make an appointment online.

If you have questions, you can also call Walker's Drug Store at (704) 364-3444.

Forston says they also accept walk-ins.
