DURHAM, N.C. — Duke University is becoming one of nine schools in the country to have a Disability Cultural Center.

Students in the Duke Disability Alliance have been advocating for this space since 2017. Jerone Samari is the current social chair.

"This space will be a common ground for all disabled students and allies alike to hang out, study...basically just an inclusive environment for everybody to come in, feel welcome, feel the sense of community within disability," Samari said.

The Disability Cultural Center is in the Bryan Center, a common space for other cultural centers, students and events on campus.

Samari says this space is just the beginning of a center they want to grow to eventually include accommodations for people with different learning styles.

Students are planning the grand opening of the center soon.
