Tamar Lipscomb started Blankets of Love in 2019
Each December she delivers blankets to patients with dialysis in Rockingham county and the Triad area
Last year Lipscomb was able to distribute more than 300 blankets
She said she was looking for a way to give back to the community and remembered how cold her father got while getting treated for his kidney issues.
“I was reflecting on the times that I spent with him at the dialysis center, so here we are now,” Lipscomb said.
Earlier this week Lipscomb gave away dozens more blankets to DaVita Reidsville Dialysis.
It’s an overlooked need the staff say they are happy someone is addressing.
"A lot of patients can’t afford blankets. They have to choose between blankets and food," said Tonya Stokes, a registered dietitian for the center.
Lipscomb’s project is called Blankets of Love.
She said before each blanket goes out she prays for the healing and encouragement of each recipient.
Lipscomb said it would not be possible without the community donating.
“I thank everybody for their support and for the love that they’ve shown and these blankets,” Lipscomb said.
Any extra blankets will go to similar centers in Forsyth and Guilford counties.
