RALEIGH, N.C. — N.C. State keeps making history with every win both the men's and women's teams earn in the NCAA Tournament.

What You Need To Know

  • N.C. State men's and women's basketball will both be playing in the Final Fours of the NCAA tournaments this weekend

  • It's the first time in school history and 11th time in NCAA history the feat of having both schools make the Final Four in the same year has been achieved

  • Boo Corrigan is N.C. State's director of athletics, and joined the Wolfpack in 2019

  • The men's team will face Purdue on Saturday, with the women's team facing South Carolina Friday

Director of Athletics Boo Corrigan said he's getting chills watching every moment, as the Wolfpack became the 11th program in NCAA history and first pair in school history to have both teams make the Final Four of the NCAA tournaments in the same year.

For just the seventh time in school history, N.C. State will face Purdue in a men's basketball matchup. N.C. State leads the all-time series 4-2, but this is just the second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and 29th all-time for N.C. State, meaning experience is not on its side. This is N.C. State's fourth appearance in the Final Four, with its last visit coming in 1983, when the Wolfpack won the NCAA Tournament.

Purdue is in a similar boat though. Although this is just the third time ever Purdue is heading to the Final Four, the first since 1980, college basketball superstar Zach Edey continues to dominate the competition.

On the women's side of things, the Wolfpack will take on South Carolina, one of the best college basketball teams ever to play the game. South Carolina is undefeated, as the winning streak for the program has extended to 36 games, and marching toward its second national championship in three years. The Wolfpack and Gamecocks have played each other 32 times before.
