RALEIGH, N.C. β€” The Carolina Hurricanes have a long list of players whose contracts will be expiring at the end of this season. There is no way General Manager Don Waddell can re-sign everyone while staying under the team's salary cap. However, one piece the Hurricanes need to consider committing vast resources and an eight-year offer to is center Seth Jarvis, who is having a breakout year.

What You Need To Know

  • Through 75 games, Seth Jarvis has 29 goals and 33 assists.

  • Jarvis was drafted 13th overall in 2020 and is in his third season with the Carolina Hurricanes.

  • Jarvis's current contract expires at the conclusion of the 2023-2024 season.

  • Reports expect Jarvis to recieve an 8-year, approximately $8 million AAV offer.

The 22-year-old Hurricane was drafted by the team in the 2020 NHL draft with the 13th overall pick and has since become both a fan favorite and key part of the team's success. The Hurricanes have made the playoffs every year that Jarvis has been on the team, and this season could be their deepest run yet in recent years. But it may also be one of their last deep playoff runs, with so many players expected to sign elsewhere following successful tenures with Carolina.

However, Jarvis, who has scored 29 goals and tallied 33 assists before Carolina's Thursday night matchup with the Boston Bruins, is one player Carolina cannot afford to lose. His success on the first line with superstar Sebastian Aho and newly acquirred scoring threat Jake Guentzel has made the trio one of the most offensively efficient lines in the entire league.

Cory Lavalette, senior editor for North State Journal and writer with The Athletic, reported that based on similar deals regarding similar players, Jarvis warrants an eight-year offer with an $8.35 million annual average value, essentially his annual pay. This would be on par with what other players of similar calibers are getting with the rising salary cap situation in the NHL.

Jarvis is well known to fans not just of the Hurricanes but also of the NHL as a fun and energetic player, whose personality makes the game fun to watch.
