RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Department of Transportation's biannual Spring Litter Sweep is underway.

What You Need To Know

  •  The Spring Litter Sweep takes place every other year

  •  Events are happening across the state

  •  The litter sweep officially ends this Saturday

  • It is free to participate

Volunteer groups across the state are doing their part, picking up trash and debris along the state's roadways.

Selma Cash, a volunteer in Wake County, helps picks up litter with her church, Elevation Baptist, throughout the year. She says they believe it's a blessing to serve the community.

“I love it, to tell you the truth. I love coming out here," Cash said. "It’s kind of addictive when you start picking up trash."

Even if you can’t commit to picking up quarterly like this group, you can still participate in the  Spring Litter Sweep event happening now.

You can check out what kind of events are happening on your county's website, or check the information here. The Spring Litter Sweep officially ends Saturday, April 27.
