The number of flu cases in New York has broken the previous record.

Governor Andrew Cuomo's office said Thursday that 131,000 New Yorkers were diagnosed with the flu this season, an all-time high for the Empire State.

The governor's office also said two children in New York City and one in the North Country died this week from the disease. That brings the total number of children who died from the flu to nine in the state.

Despite a record high, the number of new cases diagnosed dropped for a second straight week.
