New Yorkers who have gotten the COVID-19 vaccine will be able to stand next to each other at large-scale outdoor events starting May 19.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday that outdoor venues will need have a designated section for people who are vaccinated.

Outside of that, capacity for places like NBT Stadium and St. Joseph’s Health Amphitheater at Lakeview will be limited by the amount of space needed to keep people six feet apart.

Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon said it could mean more concerts and opportunities for local events.

"The amphitheater will have concerts this year. By having more capacity or full capacity, hopefully, that will mean you don’t have eight or nine shows. You have 18 or 19 shows," McMahon said Thursday.

SUNY ESF will hold their graduation at the amphitheater and McMahon said about six high schools are also considering to use the space for their graduations.

“We’ve done a lot to offer them the facility at cost. We’re not looking to make any money. We think we’ll have high school graduations there, too. It’s a great venue for that," McMahon said.

People who are fully vaccinated will need to provide proof of their immunization. They can show paper proof or use the state’s Excelsior Pass app for smart phones. Kids who are not yet eligible for the vaccine will be able to sit with a fully vaccinated adult.

The governor said by June 19, restrictions for indoor venues will also allow for vaccinated people to sit together.

Spectrum News has reached out to Live Nation who books shows at the amphitheater. They said fan safety is their number one priority and they will announce any additional events on their social media and website.
