Two people in Onondaga County have died from the COVID-19 virus, bringing the total to three in the area.

Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon made the announcement of one death during his daily briefings on Thursday. McMahon said the victim was in her late 60s. The woman was also had underlying health issues according to McMahon.

Later on Thursday, the county health department received a confirmation of a third death related to COVID-19. The man was in his 80s with “significant underlying health conditions.”

McMahon also announced that there are 24 new cases of coronavirus in Onondaga County, bringing the total to 301 cases.

McMahon also announced that an employee at the Tops Friendly Market on West Seneca Street in Manlius has tested positive for COVID-19. People who visited the store on March 26 between 6 a.m. and 1:10 p.m. and March 27 between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. may have been exposed.

Since that time, Tops has been deep cleaned.

“We are in the process of identifying all close contacts of the individual and notifying them,” said Onondaga County Health Commissioner Dr. Indu Gupta. “Anyone who visited the market during the identified time periods should monitor themselves for symptoms of COVID-19 such as fever, cough, and/or difficulty breathing for 14 days after they visited the store.”
