One of the candidates running for the 125th Assembly District has an endorsement.

"We need City Councilman Seph Murtagh," said Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick.

Myrick announced he supports Murtagh for the seat being vacated by Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton, who decided not to run for re-election this fall. Murtagh serves on the Ithaca Common Council and as communication coordinator for the assemblywoman.

"We have a lot of challenges across the 125th Assembly District," Murtagh said. "We have crumbling roads and bridges; we have people who are looking for good paying jobs; affordable childcare; for affordable housing; we have a growing climate threat that's already having huge ramifications both locally and globally," said Murtagh.

There are several other candidates who have announced their candidacies for the seat.

June 23 is the primary election.
