AUSTIN, Texas — Austin Police Department is joining the 30x30 Initiative. It’s a program in which police departments and organizations across the nation are working to establish greater representation among women in law enforcement.

APD is currently made up of 11% female officers and its hope is to increase its recruiting class by 2030 up to 30% women. The department’s goal is to also implement policies and cultures that are supportive and representative of women officers.

Chief Joseph Chacon signed the initiative at Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders Wednesday afternoon.

Chacon’s chief of staff, Robin Henderson, said she is proud to be a part of the movement.
