Two of the world's top soccer teams, Chelsea FC and Real Madrid CF, will meet for a friendly match this summer in Charlotte.

The exhibition game will be Aug. 6 at Bank of America Stadium, according to Tepper Sports. It's part of the Soccer Champions Tour, which brings top teams from around the world to play friendly matches in North America.

"Real Madrid and Chelsea are undeniably two of the most recognizable brands in the world with Charlotte serving as center stage on August 6," said Charlotte FC President Joe LaBue.

“We couldn’t be more excited to welcome the Soccer Champions Tour to Uptown Charlotte this summer. One of our core objectives will always be about growing the game and Charlotte’s reputation as a soccer city," he said.

This will be the first time Real Madrid has played in Chalrotte. But it will be a return for Chelsea. Charlotte FC beat Chelsea 5-3 on penalty kicks in July 2022.

Pre-sale for Charlotte FC season ticket holders begins March 25. General ticket sales begin March 27.

“Bank of America Stadium will host the biggest summer of soccer our city has ever seen,” said Caroline Wright, with Tepper Sports & Entertainment.

“We continue to prove our ability to attract world-class soccer events and draw huge crowds at the venue. The addition of the Soccer Champions Tour to our schedule is further proof that Charlotte is a desirable location for some of the most prestigious events," she said.
